Mesa Verde and Moab, March 2023

Well, we went to Colorado and Utah March 27-31 (Monday to Friday). It has been about 2.5 months since we went. I uploaded the pictures right after we returned, but I just added the comments today, so for some of the pics I forget certain details.
Overall, we had such a wonderful time! We were there for 4 nights total. We spend the first night in a hotel in Mesa Verde. Then we drove to Moab and stayed the remaining 3 nights at Red Cliffs Lodge, which we loved! It was so great! We had our own little cabin of sorts. We woke up early on Friday morning and drove 3.5 ours or so to the Durango, Colorado airport. It was a chillier week than we originally anticipated, but God worked it all out where it rained very little and not during any of our hikes. It was such great family time, making fun memories! The first pic is our overall trip itinerary. We decided to not do the rafting because it was too cold. I definitely think that we made the most of our time!
Of course, the pics are out of order, but there are a lot of them (and some similar pics throughout) so go fast haha.

Our Trip Itinerary

Jacob having fun with “holding” the rock.

One of our last hikes. It was the Double Arch hike. Maggie was over it.

Cool hotel room for our first night. They had a special bunk room connected and it had a video game console. Kids only had 15 minutes or so to play on it, but Jacob is laughing so hard in this pic.

One of the last hikes… Jacob isn’t having it.

First National Park of the trip. Snow!! We’re watching Jacob slip and slide all over haha.

Selfie!

We loooved all of the red rocks and cliffs.

More laughing at video game.

My cowboy!

This was on a crazy and fun UTV tour- more pics to come.

:)

First night of Spring Break at the hotel Pool.

Mags and I on the UTV. I was in a UTV with a driver. Justin is in UTV behind us with boys. Kids swapped around where they sat. I was super nervous for this excursion after reading reviews about it not being good for people afraid of heights. There are several spots with very steep drop offs and we went up and down some very steep inclines. I was mostly nervous for Logan. After about 10 minutes, we settled in and it was a BLAST!

Hard to capture how steep this is.

Of course Jacob put on the robe that came in our cabin.

Hiking

Mesa Verde cliff dwellings. Super interesting!

UTV! Soooo much fun!

Dead Horse Park. Second park we visited.

Short hike

Kids loved the horseback riding!

Our longest hike- 1.5 mile out and 1.5 mile back to see the delicate arch. The last bit to the arch was like a catwalk. I was a bit nervous. Once we got to the arch, it was an area that was all on an incline and Logan was very nervous about it and upset. We only stayed for about 5 minutes because he was upset. Once we got back to hiking back, Logan said, “that was not worth it.” I felt bad for him, but the rest of the hike was beautiful and fun!

Playground at Red Cliffs Lodge which is where we stayed for Tuesday to Thursday night. We loved staying here!!!

Dead Horse Park

Hiking fun!

Nervous for UTV tour!!

Dead Horse Park

Logan on his horse, Cowgirl. We did a 2 hour ride. It was definitely a highlight for all of us. I think Logan said it was his favorite part of trip. :)

:)

Big group! I actually booked for a date in April by mistake, and they squeezed us in for this date in March! Was super grateful!

First stop on UTV tour

You can guess whose breakfast this is. :-) Canyon Steak and Waffle- We all loved this restaurant! Yummy waffles here too!

Last random hiking spot. Found a little cave.

Day 1 of our trip!

Last day of our trip! Kids loved climbing around here. Arches National Park.

Cliff dwellings in Colorado.

Arches National Park. Double arch area.

:) … right before we left to go horseback riding, we were at our little condo, getting settled in and kids were playing outside. Jacob comes running in and says, “Logan is hurt.” Logan had on his cowboy hat and ran into this horizontal fence post because it was missing the middle posts. He busted his top lip sooo badly. His gums and lip were bleeding. I was so grateful he didn’t knock any teeth out. Within 10 minutes, he rallied and we were headed to ride horses! In this pic, you can kind of see his busted lip.

Jacob on UTV!

On UTV, Logs and I were nervous at first, and we’re now enjoying it!

:)

Most horseback riding places require kids to be 10 years old. I found one that was 7 years old and up. I called to see if Maggie (6) could ride and they asked me, “will she?” Oh yes she will! There was a different 7 year old girl in our group who was crying a little and very nervous to get on horse. Not Miss Mags. She was all about it! On the way there she said she was 1,000% excited! Her horse Jeanie did not disappoint!

Jacob decided to find a stick and play golf.

Great view of the Double Arches.

Logan and Cowgirl!

On our way home, our first flight was late arriving, so we almost missed our connecting flight. Justin decided to run ahead for us. Well, they had sent this shuttle for a family. Justin was already ahead. We got there just a minute after him, but we loved our ride!
